Golden time
by Tom Poslett
There was never a golden time
A sultry summer evening made your hand seek mine
But there was never a golden time
Just a memory of buttercups and celandine
A meadow freshly mown
The glow of cotswold stone
We’d never be alone again
To lie beneath the trees
Was good enough for me
There was never a golden time
A primrose studded path and purple hills to climb
But there was never a golden time
The fire in the sunset made our hearts entwine
House martins in the thatch
A lazy cricket match
Lying in a patch of sun
To watch the river run
Until the day is done
There was never a golden time
A swift exchange of glances and a twist of lime
But there was never a golden time
Just easy conversations and a glass of wine
Then home in time for tea
And curling up with me
Have breakfast on your balcony
So many happy times
But they were never mine
