Skid
by Tom Poslett
There was a time, a new set of lines
An attic with no stairs, a window in the sky
Behind a door, you saw the future
I was a kid of sawdust and glue
The ribs and the hard chine curling in round you
Above the din you drew the future
There was a crash
There were some hard times
Our course was set
To restart. Try again. Skid
But you knew that you would skim across the waves in skid
And you knew that you would sail across the sun in skid
Taking a risk, taking a stand
Taking the long days, shaking hands
Inside a hall, your future calling
There was a chance, there was a crowd
But they looked the wrong way
Looked askance and shied away
Your future stalling
There was a crash...
Make an escape, get ready to go
Going your own way, with all in tow
Down seven hills to find a slipway
Crossing a bridge, crossing a road
Crossing the wasteland
The path that goes down to the sea
You found your own way
There was a crash...
