A bag full of stolen dreams
Jump through that open door
Take a ride where you’ve never been
Sleep on a stranger shore
To ride a storm on broken wings
Take a car and drive through falling trees
To a line of snow – a swollen stream
And keep sliding, just so the red dog keeps smiling
Lost in the city streets
In the uncertain crowd
A deal in the alleyways
To the heat of a darkened room
To fall asleep til the pain is gone
To lie awake in a stranger’s arms
And prepare to fake another day
Denying that the red dog keeps smiling
With a packet of pretty pills
But nothing between the bread
Iced tea in the Russian rooms
A fire running round your head
To learn to laugh at the state you’re in
Someone to cry with at the bitter wind
Someone to fuck in the freezing rain
And keep lying, just so the red dog keeps smiling
